Zamora will host a cultural day of the Atlantic Romanesque

10/07/2023
On Thursday, July 13, the Zamoran temples of San Juan de Puerta Nueva and San Vicente will be the main stage for the cultural day of the Atlantic Romanesque Plan.

Guided tours, workshops and a concert will serve to enhance the value, dynamize and publicize the interventions developed in both buildings within the Plan, promoted by the Junta de Castilla y León and the Iberdrola Spain Foundation, in collaboration with the diocese of Zamora and the Santa María la Real Foundation.

The day will begin at 12.00 h. in the church of San Vicente, where, first of all, there will be a guided tour to discover the Romanesque of Zamora and, especially, the churches of San Juan and San Vicente, since both are part of the Atlantic Romanesque plan. The visit will be guided by professionals from the Association of Guides of Zamora and will serve to learn about the history of both buildings.

After the guided tour, a didactic workshop will be held, aimed mainly at people with visual impairment or limited mobility. In this case, Rosa Martín, a model maker at the Santa María la Real Foundation, will explain to the participants the elements of a Romanesque building, using several models made of wood, which they will be able to touch and feel to better understand the explanations.

Both activities are free and open to the public. However, the number of places is limited and registration is required through the "Activities" section of the website of the Atlantic Romanesque Plan (www.romanicoatlantico.org).

Zamora Symphony Orchestra Youth Concert

In the afternoon, the day will continue with a double proposal. At 19.00 h. a new guided tour, led by the director of the intervention projects in the temples of San Juan and San Vicente, the architect of the Santa María la Real Foundation, Jesús Castillo Oli, who will explain in detail the interventions made in both buildings within the Atlantic Romanesque Plan.

After the visit, at 8.30 p.m., the church of San Juan de Puerta Nueva will host a concert by the Zamora Youth Symphony Orchestra, which will perform sacred and chamber music by prominent composers such as Johan Sebastian Bach, Wilhelm Friedemann Bach, Hadyn and Heinrich Ignaz Biber. Both activities are free and open access until full capacity is reached, but require registration, which can be formalized in the activities section of the plan's website.
